Robyn Westwood

We are fortunate to have such a talented musical director as Robyn Westwood as she leads and inspires the chorus towards barbershop excellence.
Robyn has been singing virtually her whole life, first with an S.A.T.B. (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass) church choir for 15 years as a teenager. She then joined the Mountain District Musical Society where she performed in musicals for years, being honoured in 2007 with MDMS life membership. During her time with MDMS, Robyn directed and conducted several concerts, and participated in a Faye Dumont conductor’s workshop where she taught and conducted a small group of singers, performing at Robert Blackwood Hall.

In 1994 Robyn joined Yarra Ranges Harmony Chorus and began singing barbershop, first as a Baritone, then – due to demand – as a Bass. Along with three other chorus members, she sang Bass in the ‘Four on the Floor’ quartet for many years, achieving top ten placing at regional competitions. Robyn was appointed Assistant Director of Yarra Ranges Harmony in 1997, and Director of East City Sound in 2007.

Attendance at annual Sweet Adelines directors’ workshops, national conventions/competitions, and educational workshops attest to Robyn’s commitment to the massive job of being Director of our chorus, while her obvious love of barbershop music, her amazingly tuned ear, and her excitement when the chorus achieves the ‘overtones’ characteristic of good barbershop singing provide motivation in her leadership role.
