In 1994, a notice appeared in local newspapers to gauge interest in establishing a women's barbershop chorus. From this humble beginning, what was then called Yarra Ranges Harmony Chorus it came to fruition. Over the following years under a stream of different directors the chorus evolved, eventually being renamed East City Sound under the leadership of our current Director, Robyn Westwood.

As a chorus of about 25 members, all of whom love to sing, East City Sound offers a fun and friendly environment where enjoying the process is as important as improving the quality of our singing.

We rehearse regularly on Thursday nights at Boronia West Primary School, Tormore Road, Boronia, VIC from 7.30pm till IOpm. At the end of the month we celebrate our member's birthday followed by a cup of tea and a chat. These rehearsals include voice training and music education as well as the singing required to maintain a repertoire of songs for performances and occasional competitions.

Our repertoire includes traditional ballads, classic songs, popular show tunes, Australian songs, and mainstream music. East City Sound regularly performs in the community, with nursing homes, retirement villages, local clubs, Citizenship ceremonies, hospitals and Salvation Army among our most popular requests. Our colourful costumes and often lively choreography enhance the entertainment value of these performances.

East City Sound is committed to encouraging barbershop harmony through education, competition and performance, since 1997. As such, we have been able to take advantage of visiting barbershop coaches and workshops to further improve our singing skills and ensure a level of singing competence expected by such membership. A small part of our monthly membership fees contributes towards our participation in Barbershop Harmony Australia.

We are always seeking to welcome new members who love to sing and are interested in being a part of the East City Sound 'family'.
